What is Juvéderm®?

This hyaluronic acid filler, a natural complex sugar that bolsters skin elasticity, is formulated to smooth lines and wrinkles and restore volume to areas such as the cheeks. It is manufactured with Hylacross technology, a unique method of processing.

How Juvéderm® Works

Hyaluronic acid fillers work by restoring adequate stores of this substance to areas of depletion. Where HA is lost, so is volume. Where volume is lost, so is the youthful plumpness that contours the face. Without sufficient volume in the fatty tissues beneath the skin, the overlying structure becomes lax. This translates into fine lines, wrinkles, and creases around the nose, mouth, and chin. When injected into deeper dermal tissues, the hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm® attracts water molecules, which bind to the HA product to restore volume.

Dr. Wiener recommends Arnica, a natural anti-inflammatory, as well as ibuprofen post-treatment, as patients may experience 1 to 2 days of mild swelling and possibly, some bruising.

Juvéderm® Treatment Areas

Juvéderm® has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of nasolabial folds, the creases that develop between the nose and the mouth. Over years of use, the extent of treatment areas has increased to include marionette lines, which run from the corners of the mouth to the chin. Many injectors use this product to enhance the shape of the lips and reduce “smoker’s lines” around the mouth.

Cheek Augmentation With Juvéderm®

Cheek augmentation has also been performed with Juvéderm®, although its sister product Voluma XC tends to be a more common choice for mid-face enhancement.
